The Rose Grant Special Award

The Rose Grant Special Award is an additional award worth up to £500 open to outstanding applicants who can show exceptional academic achievement, and an outstanding commitment to the community or human rights. This award is given in addition to our usual grant of currently up to £1,500.

Applicants must complete the application form for our usual grant, and also provide a separate letter of application and a reference for the Rose Grant Special Award.

What it can be spent on

The Rose Grant Special Award is awarded for educational purposes. For example, it could be used to fund courses, books or equipment where the costs exceed the current £1500 limit on our usual Ruth Hayman Trust grants.

The Rose Grant Special Award may also be for educational purposes more broadly, including items which may not be eligible for a standard grant. For example, a Rose Grant Special Award could be used to fund costs of travel, childcare, a computer or stationery, provided that these are needed to enable the applicant to study. The award might also be spent on activities which will broaden the applicant’s education and cultural understanding, such as visiting an exhibition or a day trip to part of the UK that applicants have not visited before.

The award may be spent on more than one educational item.

How to apply

For those applying online, submit your application form for our usual grant and then wait for an acknowledgement email which will contain your application reference number.

Then send a letter of application and a reference from someone who is able to comment on your commitment to the community or to human rights to onlineapps@ruthhaymantrust.org.uk.   Please put the words ''Rose Grant Application'' in the email's subject box and include your application reference number from your Ruth Hayman Trust application.

For those applying by post send your Rose Grant application and reference to Ruth Hayman Trust, P. O. Box 17685, London N6 6WD or by email to onlineapps@ruthhaymantrust.org.uk.

The letter of application should:

●      show how you have shown a strong commitment to the community where you live, or to human rights;

●      state what you would spend the Rose Grant Special Award on, and explaining how this would be of educational value.

The reference should give proof of your commitment to the community or to human rights.
